The trip to Tie Island would be one of most interesting and would include the first time we turned around and choose a different route.

The small boat channel is really beautiful and passes by the “Pointe Au Baril light house.

The weather was beautiful, light winds which made negotiating the difficult channels easier. We headed out down a path I plotted on the chart plotter. We made it though several questionable area by stopping and confirming where we were on the plotter. We stopped once to see if a marker was out of position because it was not consistent with the chart plotter, a check of the charts should it was in the right spot, so the sail line on the chart plotter was incorrect. As we got close to the “Shoal Narrows” a small sail boat captain gave us strange look and a man on his walked onto his cottage porch out to watch. We determined it was not worth the risk of tying to make a 90 degree turn between the rocks so we turned around. Another looper behind us, “Native Sun”, had already made that decision. When I had plotted the course I had follow a dotted line through an alternate route from the small boat channel, I will have to be more careful.

We followed Native Sun into Hang Dog Channel, The reef and Channel are beautiful, a kayakers  dream. Full of places to explore if you don’t need 4 feet of water and 16 feet of width.

We made it to Tie Island in The Bustards and after deciding not to tie off to the rocks we find a large area to anchor then go out exploring in or dinghy.
