July 24 The Pool
We left Covered Portage and went to “The Pool” this was a 3 hour cruises and about 5 miles away as the crow flies. This cruise was about 8 miles off “The Loop”, but reportedly a must stop. The cruise in would be as close to Fjords as we would get on the cruise. Well it did not feel like Fjords to us but it was beautiful. We hiked up to Lake Topaz, a beautiful lake just a mile or so away. This was not as steep as the hike at Covered Portage but a nice climb. The lake is a beautiful topaz, I jumped off the rocks and went for a swim, the water temperature here is in the low 70′s. Refreshing on a Hot day.
When we got back to the anchorage we invited “Wild Goose”(Jim and Ann) and “Time and Tide”(Gary and Christelle) over for BYO wine time. It was an enjoyable evening, we were all envious of Time and Tide who our Canadian’s and just a few weeks into the Loop. They had already seen two bears on the trip, one swimming behind the boat as they anchored.
