I found a local bike shop and got a used bike for the rest of the trip, I managed to mess up the little Dahon we found on Craigslist in Fort Pierce. It was another HOT day and more loopers were coming in for the concert. Memory Maker, Blue Heron, and some others.
We decided to move our boat up to the top of the Peterborough Lift lock for the night, that would give us a jump on the crowd that would be headed north the next day.
The Lift lock is so cool. It’s like two big bath tubs that go up and down like an elevator. After the tubs are loaded they add a foot of water to the top one and then they switch positions. The giant pistons are a closed hydraulic system. If one tub goes down the other tub comes up. The lift is 65 feet. The weight of each tub with water is 1700 tons.
The concert was a lot of fun, John Denver night, it featured about 6 locals from the area from 12 to 70. There must have been over a 3 thousand people at the concert.
