We were sad to leave Mackinac but the forecast was for some high winds later in the week so we wanted to get closer to Traverse City while the seas were 1-2 feet. We headed out early from Mackinac Island to get some Diesel fuel and make a long run down to Charlevoix. It was a pretty long run and a little bumpy. We were not as lucky getting into the Marina here. They were booked solid until Sunday when we had a reservation. The Marina is in Round Lake betwwen Lake Michigan and Lake Charlevoix, and the homes and boat houses are beautiful. We got on the waiting list and we into Lake Charlevoix to an anchorage in Oyster Bay.

Oyster Bay is a very popular place, when we got there was about 20 boats, but when evening came there were only three of us anchored out for the night. The next day was Saturday, and it was a gorgeous day. Clear with temperatures in the 90’s. More than 45 boats showed up to enjoy the clear water in the bay.

We enjoyed the bay and got some chores done, later in the day a front started moving in, winds picked up to about 25 miles per hour. Our anchor held through the night, but the wind swung the boat to within about 150 feet of a home owner dock, he came out in the morning to be sure we knew. We pulled anchor and went to the town marina for our Sunday reservation.

It was windy getting to the marina but we got into our slip without any problems. We heard that the winds out on the Big Lake were really strong with gusts to 49 mph with 5-7 foot waves. The dock was really nice place to be, the town is nice and we enjoyed a dinner at a restaurant overlooking the marina.
