Another beautiful sunrise. Cool with a clear sky and light wind, we expect the wind to pick up as we cross the North Channel. We started the day with a problem with the trip line. The boat was directly over the anchor so as I pulled up the anchor it was rubbing the boat. I had Charlotte bump the boat into reverse to get off the chain, I suspect that the props cut the trip line because when the anchor came up the trip was cut. We found the float under the swim platform. I put on my mask, fins, and knife to go check under the boat to be sure we did not have any issues on the prop, seals or stabilizers from the trip line. It was the first time I had carried the diving knife I got on Craigslist, unfortunately the strap that held the knife was not properly secured and when I got back on the boat it was gone.
The trip across the North Channel was fine, just a little cool as we were straight into the wind. We anchored as close to shore as we dared at little south of the marina. We spent the day doing maintenance. I Dinghy into make a reservation at the Meldrum Inn for dinner and get my email. We had to take a 5:30 Reservation as that was all that was available. This is the only place in town and we had traveled out of our way to get here, obviously we were not the only ones. The recommendation had come from Frances and Jim on Minnehaha. It was a great dinner, the Fish and Chips were the best so far on the trip. We were fortunate to have a table on the porch overlooking the harbor. That night we were entertained by a solo guitarist, Marty Rosen, from Kentucky. Marty has a great voice. We were right next to him and enjoyed talking to Marty between songs it is a very relaxed and comfortable restaurant. No electronics at your table, but free Wi-Fi in the garden or the parlor. The owner made the deserts from scratch and the apple pie was delicious, still not like Aunt Anne’s but she is the best.
We made to the boat and prepared the boat for the storm we could see coming. It did not get to us till about Midnight and we never got heavy winds or lighting near the boat but we did rock and swing quite a bit. We both stayed up till we were sure the boat was not going to drag into the rocks. I slept in the Pilot House where I could see the Chart plotter and check the boats position and the weather radar. I was glad that we had picked this spot to anchor as we had protection on three sides. of course that means rocks on three sides. After the front passed about 2 I was able to get some sleep.
