We were able to stay to more days and we loved this Island, No cars, just bikes and Horses. It was easy to see why this is the most popular marinas in the Michigan Parks System. 10-15,000 people visit here every day by Ferry. Bikes were everywhere, but Horse is King. First time I had ever seen a team of horses back a wagon up and around a corner to make a delivery. This is a great family spot, kids were out biking on their own all over the island.

We started Wednesday with a flat tire on the bike, but after a new tube we were off on a 8 mile bike ride around the Island, and then we toured the Fort and the Grand Hotel. Both the Fort and the Hotel are very interesting. While at the Grand Hotel we went up to the Cupola Bar on the top of the hotel. Then found a bar for dinner and some TV. The Olympics were in full swing and the TV’s Digital Antenna on the boat is not working.

Thursday Morning was a little cloudy so when we went out on our bikes we were just about the only ones doing the 8 mile path around the Island. That quickly changed as the morning warmed up. We made it up to the Limestone Arch and the Carriage Museum, These old carriages are beautiful, didn’t know Studebaker was a carriage maker. A very beautiful Parasol Top Park Phaeton, made by Ferdinand French Co, was a favorite, It was previously owned by August A. Busch when he was a summer resident on the Island. Then we did some of the other bike trails on the island. The trails were fun, up and down some great hills through the woods. Then back to a bar for some more Olympics over dinner.
