Back to the USA. We left Meldrum bay about 8 am and traveled to Drummond Island to check back into the United States. We had about a 20 mile across the North Channel into the wind. It was about 70 degrees, into a 10 mph wind and we were doing about 10 mph, so a wind chill of 20 mph. We travel from the Pilot House.

As we approached Drummond Island we turned so the wind was behind us and we went into the Marina. They let us tie up at a slip and the customs agent came onto the boat and checked us in. We had nothing to declare so it went smoothly. It took about an hour as there were a lot of boaters checking in to the US.

We decided to keep going and try to get into Mackinac Island Marina, we were told all the reservations were taken. I asked if things might change and he suggested I call back in a couple of hours. The weather has no storms forecast and winds consistently from the North East. There are several anchorages that appear to be good options with this forecast so we keep going.

2pm still no room

4pm still no room

4:50 change course for anchorage

5 pm as we pass within 5 miles…. they can fit us in :)

When we got there we were docked behind some friends of ” Potest Fieri “, Roger and Karen. They invited us over to join them for drinks with Danny and Susan. We had great time and went to dinner with them at The Pink Pony.
