We left Burlington about 10 am and made our way to Canada. Two of the books we have said to call an 800 number and check in, official’s may want to send someone to check your boat or have you stop at a checking dock. We did that at first on our Sprint Phone ( If I have not said so before unlimited phone and internet with Sprint is useless so far) which lost signal in the middle of the call even though I had setup for roaming in Canada for $.20/min while in Burlington. So I got out my other “deal” for unlimited satellite phone. (Global star had a deal for one year, but due to satellite issues it only works 80% of the time). I had service long enough to finish my conversation with customs. The Canadian official said to call back when we went ashore. I asked if we need to fly our newly purchased quarantine flag until then and he did not know what I was talking about. We proceeded up the river, it was cool and windy so we were in the pilot house, when we heard a siren. Fire Trucks?, NO. The check point guards were waving at us and the siren was from there building so we made our way over to them. They were not too pleased that we had proceeded without a check in. I told him the “story” and he took down the number, he said if we had not turned around that they would have sent “the police”. That would not have beeen a nice way to start our time in Canada. Well as were finishing 20 Buck$ was motoring by without stopping, on went the siren and he could not hear it inside his boat. They asked us to call him on our radio which we did. 1-800 strikes again. We had left when Ken checked in but the Canadians told him they were going to talk to 1-800. Turns out o Ken’s 800 call that Ken had been given a registration number, which made no difference to the checkin station. Well next time we will just go directly to the check in dock.
Our guide had a free stop at Ile aux Noix, it looked rough with “DANGER” signs but we decide to raft up with 20 Buck$. The tie-up wall was fine but the dock board were gone. It was a safe tie up for the night. The big grass field had some varmints, so I took some pictures. The pictures of the us checking in and the dock were taken by 20 buck$.
