We got a late start leaving St. Anne’s so that we could dispose of the used engine oil. We knew it would be a little busy because of the holiday. Well it was very busy. We were packed into the lock leaving St Anne’s and would have to wait several hours at the big Carillon lock.

20Buck$  got an earlier start and they were waiting for the lock when we got there with about twenty five other boats. We watched them go in the lock in about an hour and three hours later it was our turn to get sandwiched into the lock. The lift is about 65 feet and one side has a giant guillotine style door that drops into place. This is the biggest lift so far on the trip.

We did meet some nice Canadians while we waited, one even tried to make arrangements for us to stay at  Le Château Montebello, a very large log cabin resort. We opted to skip it at over $250.00 for the night to dock the boat.

We made a stop for fuel and a pump out. We took on some fuel and hoped to not by more till we were in Lake Michigan ( a little more planning and we could have waited till we were in the New York visiting the Thousand Islands). Hopefully this will be the most expensive fuel we buy $6.00 a gallon.

We caught up to 20Buck$ at a local dock in Hawkesbury. Interesting evening as folks there felt comfortable to walk up to the boat, hold onto the rails and look in. The next day we saw several nice anchorages  nearby that would have been terrific.
