We set out early Saturday morning for Deltaville, VA. Since we were no longer in the ICW the charts would no longer have the “Magenta Line”. The Magenta Line shows the approximate center of the ICW and has solved more than one confusing situation. As we leave Norfolk we will be in the Chesapeake Bay which is up to 30 miles wide and 200 miles long.
We needed something to give us a sense that we were on the right path so I broke out Alan Navigation notes and plotted his recommended course. We were fortunate that the winds were light so the sea were calm.
We passed the “Wolf Trap” light house along the route.
When we got to Deltaville over a dozen boats had already gotten there from the Rendezvous in Norfolk. Dozier’s had gas grills hot and the beer cold for a 6pm cook out. BYO meat and a side to share. It was a great way to get into the swing of Looping.
We stayed until Monday so I could get some help replacing one of my Racor Filter Housings. With the help a local mariner, Jerry Blaine, we were able to get a mechanic from Norton’s on no notice to help us out. I am glad I did not try to replace it on my own as we ended up taking the whole system to their shop so the could find tools to get it apart.
