We headed to Chicago Sunday and started calling the Marinas, the one we wanted DuSable was full but we got in at Belmont. This was a good location and we walked into town for dinner just few blocks for the Wrigley Field. It was pretty cool, no game tonight but maybe tomorrow.
We got the bikes out in the morning and had a great ride down the lakeside. The weather was fabulous and we had a great morning. I decided to try getting into the marina again and they had room. They are still predicting high winds from the North which will make Lake Michigan pretty nasty for boating. We headed back and moved the boat, then went back out for another ride into Chicago. Found a great supermarket, Mariano’s Fresh Market. Some of our looper friends came here everyday and I can see why great groceries, Deli, Buffet, and Wine. It was only 10 minutes from the marina.
Monday night we went out with Steve who had given us a ride from the Milwaukee airport to the boat. He took us to a cool restaurant, Au Cheval . The hamburgers were terrific, first time I have had a sunny side up fried egg on my fries. We sat behind Graham Elliott form the Top Chef program.
Tuesday was shopping day for Danny; I know Mary Joan will like to see him when he gets home.We went by the beach again and the surf was up, we got reports of upto 17 ft sea out in Lake Michigan. Check out the pictures of the beach from yesterday and today. Late in the afternoon Danny and I roamed around looking for a coffee spot we had heard about but it was closed. We saw a place for a beer overlooking Millennium Park, Tavern in the Park. Well they were having an Amstel beer pouring contest, no cost to enter and you got to drink your pours. We stayed and poured a few as we ate dinner. I got into the finals but did not win. It was a fun night.
Wednesday we walked around Chicago and had dinner at “The Purple Pig” this was a great restaurant. Charlotte came back late; her flight was a little late but the cab ride was later. Her driver could not find the marina, turns out it is a common issue. So if you’re catching cabs in Chicago you better have your own GPS or a paper map to the marina.
Thursday we move the boat right downtown between State Street and Dearborn. Then we got out and toured the city, including a trip to the top of the John Hancock Observatory. We got dinner at a small Italian restaurant.
Friday Danny headed home, it was great to spend so time with him. Charlotte and I toured some more and caught dinner at a Mexican place close by. Glad we got in early at 6 pm there was an hour wait and standing room only in the bar by 6:30. Dinner was good and so were the Margarita’s.
