This morning we take the dinghy out and explore the whole bay. We saw some fishermen using a table umbrella on there John boat, it reminded us how I had done that on the ski boat for some shade when pulling the kids on the tube for hours at a time. We decided to move onto Kingston in hopes of catching Blue Heron. We spent our wedding anniversary in Kingston NY and enjoyed dinner with Barbara and Craig, if we made it to Kingston we could enjoy dinner with them and their daughter Karen on their anniversary in Kingston Ontario. When we pulled the anchor we got so much mud and weeds that the windlass could not pull the anchor over the roller. I had hoped to get it close enough to reach the mess. It took about 30 minutes to clear the mess.
It was a long day as we got held up at a couple of lock and we were squeezed into some. I put one of our fenders on the anchor of a boat behind us. It got squeezed as the water was going out of the lock to bring the boat to the lower level of the lake we were entering.
When we got to Kingston there is a bridge that does not open at Rush Hour so we were looking at a 2 hour delay. We decided to try the small craft bridge opening. One of the boats we had been in the locks with offered to go through in front of us so we could judge the height. The book said 15 feet and the chart 17 feet . I readjusted the mast which had been down since we left Ottawa to get a few more inches. I think we were down to about 16′ 2 inches. The book said 15 feet and the chart 17 feet. I would say 16′ 4 inches. Charlotte slowly pulled under the bridge. It was clam on the water and we slipped under with about 2 inches to spare.
We got to the marina and spent several hours getting the power working. Then got to enjoy our Kingston Anniversary Dinner with Craig, Barbara and Karen.
